To be a dentist in the United States, you must either have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) from one of the 67 Accredited dental schools in the United States.

To be accepted into dental school, your dentist must first have earned a bachelor's degree that is heavy in credits for math and science. Dental school itself is a three-year program which combines both classroom and hands-on learning.

Upon graduation, your dentist can choose to continue their education by earning one of twelve ADA recognized specializations which require an additional three years of training to achieve.

Once licensed, your dentist must then complete a certain number of hours of continuing education each year to maintain their dental license.
